Safe Keeping blinked. The boat hurled itself through the blackness, pursuing unfocused points of color. Light the color of blood splashed on Orion’s features. To Safe Keeping, his face looked carved of ivory. When he carried her inside his neck and her hair smelled of woodsmoke. She blinked again. Shook her head. Took a deep breath. Orion’s face faded and she saw the road. Sleep she thought, at home. Get home. Red light. Stop. Safe Keeping filled her lungs with the middle of the night. Just before she crossed Twin Oaks the air tasted like Gin and Tonic. Juniper. she though.
