A Girl Named August

“I think it’s a dragon.”
“No it isn’t! Dragons are bigger.”
“It’s a baby, you idiot.”
It blinked at them, it’s eyelids the color of tarnished pewter closing upward. It’s tail twitched, sliced the blossom off a dandelion.
“Besides, dragons don’t exist in real life. Except fake ones in zoos. Ko…um…k-komoe or something.”
“How do you know? Maybe this one escaped or…I dunno.”
“Escaped from where? Your imagination?” The dragon’s head swiveled lazily and it exhaled like a birthday candle. She looked at her brother. The dragon yawned. The explanation seemed far less implausible than expected.
“Maybe.” she said.
