The Name

What surprised her more than the sound of the Dragon speaking was that it did not surprise her at all. She had always known It possessed the capability. She assumed the silence was due to Its unwillingness to acknowledge lesser creatures. In the same way It seemed above the foolish distinction of gender, she guessed It was above so clumsy a communication as speech. Yet It had spoken. To her. It asked for a name.
“None of the names I know are…” she faltered, “…big…enough.”
The Name is not for me, Its eyes were liquid bronze, It is for you.
